On June 8, the 35th Annual Athens Human Rights Festival was blessed with sunny weather after the rain-out in May. Festival volunteers did the hard work of organizing the festival’s second try, and their efforts paid off. Festival audiences enjoyed issue-oriented speakers, music, information tables and street theater by Lacy and the Glitter Cabaret. After 35 years, the festival is a rite of spring.

Driving rain on May 4, 2013 forced cancellation of the 35th Annual Athens Human Rights after only a few hours. Artist and Grammy Award-winning musician Art Rosenbaum performed in front of this year’s rights fest logo that he designed. Other performances before the rain-out included the Athens Montessori Singers, Girls With Guitars, and Tommy Jordan, who has played at every rights festival.
