Philadelphia  2000: Marchers declare independence from Bush outside GOP  convention

Days of large and colorful demonstrations enlivened the streets of Philadelphia during the Republican convention in 2000.  As George W. Bush was nominated for president on the GOP ticket,  marchers for a grab-bag of causes rallied in Philly  and a heavy police presence gave the “city where freedom was born” the trappings of martial law.
